Film and Legal experts to share insights into Staffordshire film industries at free business event

THREE keynote speakers – who are helping to shape the future of film in Staffordshire – are to share their insights at an upcoming business event.

Lead of the county’s recently opened Film and TV office – Johnny Shelton of Staffordshire Film office will open the event – which is being hosted by Connects Network – to share more about the opportunities in the region.

Johnny himself has a wealth of experience in UK film and television including a previous role with Creative England’s ‘Filming in England’ team.

Director of Stoke Film Theatre, Grace Jordan, will delve into the necessity of screening independent films to local audiences and the final keynote speaker on the day – Group Managing Director of Knights Group Holdings Plc, Andrew Pilkington – will share experiences and knowledge about legal foundations of intellectual property.

Peter Herbert, who is Director of not-for-profit Connects Network, said:
“We are delighted to announce three brilliant keynote speakers for our next business networking event at Keele.

“All of our speakers will be able to share knowledge, expertise and experience about our County’s amazing creative industry, as well as provide insights into opportunities which are available for local businesses to get involved in.”

September’s – Connects @ Keele –  is also the first in a series of events which will take place in the build up to the second Shaping the Future Business Festival.

Earlier this year Connects Network partnered with Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council to help to organise the business festival and are continuing to do so again. The festival is supported by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Peter added: “In March this year, along with the council and other partners, we helped to organise the first ever Shaping the Future Business Festival, which took place at various locations in and around the town centre.

“Keele was one of our venues during that week-long festival and we are delighted to be holding this first session in the run up to the 2026 festival at the Denise Coates Foundation Building.”

Registration is required for the Connects @ Keele event on Thursday 25 September, and businesses are advised to book early to avoid disappointment.
